Duffy Assembly

Giant Killer was our Duffy role model today at Assembly. He performed an awesome rap made up of words that he thought of on the spot.
We were excited about decorating our Duffy Box and couldn't wait to get our two books from inside. Thank you Duffy!
Congratulations also to Frelex Mikaele for recieving our class Duffy Award.
Here are a few photos of our Duffy Assembly.

Well done to all the teachers and students for the creative designs that we saw in decorating your Duffy Box. A big Kia Ora to Kungfu Pandas for being the winners!

Week 7

POETS WRITING GROUP

In writing this week the Poets have been practising to write simple sentences.

They have been practising and challenging themselves to be confident with reading, writing and putting high frequency words into correct sentences. After they have written their sentence(s) they will then check their work to see whether they have included a capital letter and a full stop in the right place. They are being encouraged to fix their own mistakes and to use the words cards to check their spelling is correct.

Check out the Poets in action!

Week 8

Feeding the Kunikuni and Heihei!
My class went to feed the pigs and chickens. I felt happy because we went to feed the pigs. I saw the pigs running around in their pen. We put the water in the bucket for the pigs and chickens. The chickens laid five eggs. We took these eggs to the staffroom.

Feeding the two fat hairy pigs and the scary Chickens!
We jumped into two lines and zoomed like a jet to Hettie, Percy and the Chickens. I couldn't believe that my class was going to feed the animals. I felt so happy and crazy like a monkey at the zoo. I knew it was going to be a great experience feeding the animals.

When I fed the pigs I felt excited. I wanted to let them bite my arm off. The chickens looked creepy. When they looked at me it almost seemed like they wanted to peck me instead of their kai.

When we finished feeding the animals we had to make sure that we washed our hands. I didn't want to leave. I couldn't wait for the next feeding day.

Tie Dye Background Self Portraits

In Visual Art, we have been focusing on sketching, colouring one way, creating our own patterns and designs to represent ourselves and our culture. During our Self Portrait lessons we required a lot of focus, determination, motivation, encouragement from our peers and patience to complete our art piece. Our medium that we used included colouring pencils, vivid and dye.

Check out our Tie Dye Background Self Portraits. Do you think we still look the same?

FOOTSTEPS - FUN DANCING

Footsteps is a group of people who teach students in schools how to dance.

Early in the morning, a lady named Kate came to Rowandale School to teach us how to dance.
Bye, bye, bye was the name of the song that we were dancing to. We didn't have much time for talking because each session was only for half an hour. We were already late, so Kate got straight into teaching us.

Firstly, we had to find a space in the hall. Then we had to do a bunch of different steps one by one with Kate stopping us each time. At first, it was easy, then I realised it was getting harder and harder. I had to concentrate really hard. The moves continued to change and Kate talked us through each step before playing the music where I got a bit nervous about because it was a bit fast.

Our time with Kate was too short. I wish she will come back to teach us and hopefully we will be able to finish the dance routine and learn it for a bit longer. I had so much fun dancing because Kate made it fun and it was easier to follow her.
Thanks Kate!

ASB Get Wise (Financial Literacy)

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!

On Monday we had Jeremy from ASB Get Wise visit our class and school for the first time. He talked to us about money. His job is to go around to schools to teach students about saving money.

I learnt a lot of information that morning about how to make money and different ways to save money. Some of the ways to make money included doing chores like folding the washing, washing the dishes or cleaning the house. Another way to make money is helping out in the neighbourhood, for example mowing the lawns, painting a fence or babysitting.

I found selling and trading an exciting way to make money. This includes things like having a garage sale, bakery sale or selling lemonade to family members. It is important to start saving now so you have some money for yourself when you grow up.

I get money for doing chores and helping around the house. I now know the importance to spend some for me, and save some too. Thank you Jeremy for teaching me about saving money!

Second Week of Swimming

This week for swimming we learnt how to enter the pool correctly using the 3/4 turn.

We continued our learning with using the flutter board and even got the chance to streamline without using it too.

We really enjoy swimming and our teacher thinks we are getting better at it. Check out our improvement!

All about me!

PATIOLE FAMILY
In my family there are eight members. My brother Pelite is the oldest child who works at Hirepool. He is twenty years old. The second eldest is my brother Desmond who is a father to my cute baby nephew Aaron. I have a gorgeous sister who attends Manurewa High School. She is a bit taller than me with short brown hair. My brother Junior goes to Manurewa Intermediate and he is quite naughty but sometimes kind to me. He is 12 years old. Then, there is me and my twin Tracey. We are identical and I am the oldest by 3 minutes.

We love playing sports as a family. My parents are kind, thoughtful, respectful and they love us very much.

My goal for this year in reading is to reach level 30 and in Maths I want to be at Stage 8. In writing, I want to write in paragraphs and to add similes to make my stories sound interesting.
