Road Safety Week

Today we were lucky to have Constable Nicky visit our class to talk to us about road safety.

Here are a few concerns that the Cheeky Cheetahs have about Road Safety.

These are a few of our thoughts of what we learnt with Constable Nicky:
  • "Not to walk through Alley Ways by yourself and when your crossing the road to STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN", Junior.
  • "If you don't cross at a Pedestrian crossing you might get a ticket from the Police", Margret.
  • "I learnt not to display my Ipad or phone when I'm walking home but to put it inside my bag for safe keeping", Juanita.
  • "Beware of strangers", Tohoa.
  • "Get someone to help you check that your bike is roadworthy", Matthew.
  • "If you are scared of a stranger, run away from them and call 'stranger, danger'", Roscoe.
  • "You could run to other peoples homes if someone is stalking you", Lialia.
  • "Don't go close to people you don't know", Vashon.
  • "You can't carry any weapons to protect yourself", Tyla.
  • "If you are scared of someone then you have to tell an adult", Kyra-Jae.
  • "Tell people to stop taking your lunch or tell the teacher" -Christian O
  • "It's not good to be holding knives on the road", Waea.
  • "When your at the Pedestrian crossing you need to look both ways before crossing", Miracle.
  • "When you are going somewhere you don't need a weapon", Vaivasa.
  • "I learnt that it is important to always use the pedestrian crossing at all times", Alicia.
  • "If you are scared of a dog, you need to cross the road onto the other side or ask the owner if they bite", Jodeci.

House Chants

On Friday we got together in our houses to practise our chants; Kakapo, Kotare, Pukeko and Piwakawaka.
It was such a great idea to get together and practise - thank you Whaea Lois for giving us that opportunity. Each house captains have done a great job with teaching their houses.
Can you spot any Cheeky Cheetahs amongst the crowd?

Buddy Time

Our mission this term is to get to know our High Flyers Team. This week we have started with getting to know the Spartans.

We are preparing for Samoan Language week in Week 5, so we got together to practise the three songs; Tele I'a o le sami, Samoa Tula'i and Le aute.
We really enjoyed learning these songs and we look forward to practising with another buddy class next week.
SINGING WITH THE SPARTANS

At the end of the week we decided to finish off our buddy time with a game of Basketball.

In our game we decided to focus on 3 important rules:
1) Double Dribble
2) Travelling
3) Fouls

Instead of having 5 players like normal, we had 10 players. This was to help us with our confidence - it worked! We were split up into 4 different teams and had to win 1 basket. All teams played really well and both the Spartans and Cheeky Cheetahs can't wait for the next game.
BASKETBALL WITH THE SPARTANS
Well done Spartans! Well done Cheeky Cheetahs!

PROUD PENGUINS TIME
We ended off our week by spending time with our little buddies - Proud Penguins. Both classes have been learning about Road Safety and decided to get together to draw about it.
ART WITH THE PENGUINS
Here are some of the Proud Penguins working with the Cheeky Cheetahs!

Basic Facts

Knowledge - what is it?
It is information that we need to know. In Maths we know that if we don't have the knowledge to answer simple questions we won't be able to know what the answer is. So we are working really hard to fill in our gaps of learning.

We are learning to instantly recall our basic facts. We have been using a dice to help us learn these through a game. We love to challenge ourselves and each other. How fast are you at answering basic facts questions?

We have mastered our basic facts to 10 so this week we have been working on our basic facts to 20.
The Additions group are anxious to have their turn.

The rest of the class are on Mathletics completing their set tasks.
The Additions also get a turn on the digital devices as well.

Welcome Suan & Family

Suan comes to Rowandale School from Burma. He is learning to speak English and in week 2 we had a Powhiri to welcome our new families to our school.

Nau mai, Haere mai!

Check out Suan on his first week at school. Thank you Junior for helping him out. Suan was learning to identify the names of different objects in the class and being able to use the words 'thank you' and 'please'.

Keep up the great work Suan. The Cheeky Cheetahs are behind you 100%.
