Ei - Cook Island Headpiece

Kia Orana whanau,

This week our entire school had a challenge to make a head piece which we will wear at our school assembly. These are a few of our 'Ei' that we have done in class and at home.

PRIDE VALUES in Class

DOJO POINTS
This week the Cheeky Cheetahs  have been using DOJO POINTS as a reward system. We are rewarded points for using our PRIDE values in and out of class. 

As a class we decided what each PRIDE value is worth and we can gain points daily when we display these values. Our teacher also has this app on her phone so we are constantly earning points anywhere at anytime. 

We have really enjoyed using this system to promote positive behaviour for learning and we look forward to seeing how well we do each week. The winner receives a prize at the end of the week and the person who wins the most throughout the term will also receive an award at the end of the term.  Our winner for this week is Vaivasa Amiatu.  Ka mau te wehi,  Vaivasa! 

Te Reo Challenge

Kia Ora Koutou Whanau,

The Cheeky Cheetah's are giving Te Reo a go...we started the week off with learning how to say 'Patua te whakama' which means 'don't be shy'.

We continued our day with a Karakia where we sang 'Ka waiata'.

We look forward to giving Te Reo a go...have you?

Farewell to our Student Teacher, Ms Skye!

Kia Orana everyone, 

This week we had to say farewell to someone special who joined our family for 5 weeks.

Thank you to Ms Skye for being part of our learning journey. Your encouragement and enthusiasm is appreciated by all the Cheeky Cheetah's and we would like to wish you all the best in your studies. 

Here are a few pictures of our last day with Ms Skye. Thank you for our gifts and card but most importantly, thank you for your time and love for us. Good luck and God Bless you. We will surely miss you.

Writing experience with our buddy class!

This term we have been learning about Explanation Writing. We got together with our buddy class the Proud Penguins to experience making 'FAIRY BREAD' and then we wrote about how we made it.

Samoan Language Week

Talofa Lava, 
In week 5 we celebrated Samoan Language Week. We started off the week with the raising of the flag.

We learnt how to say:
Hello - Talofa Lava
How are you? - O a mai oe?
I am fine thank you - Manuia fa'afetai.

In groups we discussed what we knew about Samoa and what we thought about why language is important?  

The theme for the week was, 'E felelei manu ae ma'au i o latou ofaga', in translation this means, 'Birds migrate to environments where they will survive and thrive'. The Cheeky Cheetah girls learnt a Samoan dance (mauluulu) to 'Pe lele le toloa i fea'. They learnt to make up actions to tell the story about the migration of the birds to different environments.

For art work we were able to draw birds, patterns and talk about the Samoan Siapo.

We learnt about two Myths: 'Sina and the Tuna' and the 'Turtle and the Shark'. 
In pairs they had to read about the Myth and identify the key ideas. Students were encouraged to work in pairs or in a group of no more than 3 people where they had to rewrite the Myth and add pictures onto an A3 piece of paper. 

Some of the Cheeky Cheetahs are part of the Pasifika group where they performed a few Samoan traditional dances. It was great to see them show case their pride in their culture. We celebrated with an assembly where we invited our neighbouring school Clendon Park to perform and our special guest was the 2011 reigning Miss Samoa - Metotisi Komiti-Fa'alavaau.
